Comparison

Missed call text back software, compared honestly

We sell one of these, so read this knowing that. Every statement about another product below is what that company says on its own site, linked and dated, and we say where each one is the better choice.

How we compared them

Six tools that offer missed call text back, in three kinds: business phone systems, a marketing platform, and services that answer the inquiry. We describe what each one does with a missed call, who it suits, and what to check before you buy.

There are no prices here. They change faster than this page will, and most of these vendors publish theirs; follow the source link for each. There are no star ratings either, because we have not run each product on your calls, and neither has anyone else publishing a score.

Which kind do you need?

  • A fast acknowledgement is enough and you call everyone back within the hour: the auto-reply built into a business phone system, such as Quo, Grasshopper or Allo.
  • Your marketing already runs on a platform: use the feature inside it, such as HighLevel, so the missed call lands in the same contact record.
  • You want reviews, payments and webchat too: a communication platform such as Podium. See our Podium comparison.
  • Callers usually want a price or a time, and you want to check the answer before it goes: a drafted reply with approval, which is what Tensvia does.

The six options

Quo

Business phone system
How missed calls are handled
Auto-replies for missed calls, voicemails and unanswered texts, with separate messages for business hours and after hours. Quo says it won't text the same number more than once every three hours.
Fits
Teams that want missed-call texting as part of their business phone.
Watch for
The reply is a message written in advance; the actual answer still comes from a person later.

Grasshopper

Virtual phone system
How missed calls are handled
An instant response text to first-time callers you can't pick up for, written by you, up to 160 characters, per its help center.
Fits
Solo operators and small teams already on Grasshopper who want the basics.
Watch for
Built for first-time callers, so returning customers who miss you are handled differently.

Allo

Business phone system
How missed calls are handled
Texts the caller back from your business number, with a default or custom message, and switches to an after-hours message on your schedule. Allo also offers an AI receptionist fallback for when the team is offline.
Fits
Small teams that want text-back and schedule handling in one phone app.
Watch for
Automatic texting sits on its Business plan, so check which plan you need.

HighLevel

Marketing and CRM platform
How missed calls are handled
Switched on in its phone settings, with a custom message that can include placeholders such as the contact's name. Its help article says it triggers on every missed call, including repeat calls, and suggests building a workflow to avoid duplicates.
Fits
Agencies and businesses already running their marketing on HighLevel.
Watch for
Handling repeat callers and follow-ups is workflow you build and maintain.

Podium

Customer communication platform
How missed calls are handled
A missed caller receives a text, and Podium says its AI Employee then keeps the conversation going day or night.
Fits
Businesses that also want reviews, payments and webchat in one platform.
Watch for
A broad platform bought as a whole. Our Podium comparison covers when that is worth it.

Tensvia

Inquiry response service (this site)
How missed calls are handled
A missed call becomes an inquiry. A reply is drafted from your own prices, hours and policies, and you approve it before it sends, until you choose to let routine categories send on their own. Consent and opt-outs are enforced on the send path.
Fits
Owners who care what the reply says and want to check it before customers see it.
Watch for
More setup than a toggle, because your facts have to be written down. New, with no SOC 2 report.

What to ask any vendor

  • What happens when the same person calls three times? Three identical texts read as a broken system.
  • Does a voicemail change the message? Someone who left a message should not be asked to explain again.
  • Where is the opt-out enforced? STOP should block every future message from every workflow, not just the one that was running.
  • Who handles A2P 10DLC registration? In the US, unregistered texts get filtered without any error you would see.
  • Can the reply answer the question? If it can only say sorry we missed you, the answer still depends on someone calling back in time.

Whichever tool you pick, the templates page has messages you can load into it.

Questions people ask

What is the best missed call text back software?

The one that matches what your callers need to hear. If a quick acknowledgement and a call back within the hour is enough, the auto-reply built into a business phone system is the simplest choice. If you run marketing automation already, use the feature inside it. If callers usually want a price or a time, look for a tool that can answer from your own information, and decide whether you want to approve those answers first.

Is missed call text back free?

Sometimes it is included in a phone or CRM plan you already pay for, but the texts themselves are not free to send. Messaging fees and, in the US, A2P 10DLC registration apply whichever tool you use.

Do I need a new phone number?

Not necessarily. Many tools work with your existing number or forward from it, but the number that sends the text has to be able to send texts and, in the US, be registered for business messaging.

Before choosing a tool, measure the gap. Two weeks on your real calls and messages, and a number you can take to whichever vendor you end up choosing.

Two weeks of measurement on your real inbox. If the numbers say you do not have this problem, we will tell you and stop there.
